Carols With The Angels

25 November 2009

It's the time of year when once again St Mary of the Angels invites parishioners and the whole community from around the greater Wellington area to join us in celebrating the spirit of Christmas. ‘Carols with the Angels’ is being held on Wednesday 16 December at 7.30 pm at St Mary of the Angels’ Church, 17 Boulcott Street, Wellington. This annual event is jointly organised by the Friends of St. Mary of the Angels Charitable Trust and the St. Mary of the Angels’ Choir. Those who have attended in the past will recall a very special evening celebrating Christmas.

Veteran broadcaster Ian Johnstone is again generously contributing his skills as host. Building on past successes the Wellington Citadel Salvation Army Band. returns and our Maxwell Fernie Organ will of course be a major feature. The programme will include Fr. Chris Skinner SM singing from his Christmas Carols collection and items from the St. Mary of the Angels’ Choir (including our new ‘Young Angel Voices’ junior choir).

Of course the main attraction continues to be the opportunity for everyone to join in singing all their favourite carols including Silent Night, First Nowell, Once in Royal David's City, Away in a Manger and many others and to experience the wonderful atmosphere of St. Mary of the Angels’ Church. The full programme will run a little more than an hour.

There will be a collection during the evening going towards meeting the costs of planned Presbytery renovations and upgrading our hall facilities.

Also, we will continue our ‘tradition’ - started over the past two years - where during the evening children will be invited to come forward to place small gifts under the Christmas tree. Adults are also invited to place a gift if they do not have children present. Each gift should notate on the outside whether for a boy or girl and the age range of the gift. The St. Vincent De Paul Society will distribute these gifts to needy families in the wider community.

‘Carols with the Angels’ is open to everyone and promises to be an enjoyable and spiritual Christmas event. We look forward to welcoming everyone to this wonderful Christmas occasion.
